KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville's Metropolitan Planning Commission has denied a developer's request to close a West Knoxville road.
Ben Atchley Street is a one-block road in Bearden that runs between Kingston Pike and Homberg Drive.
Owners of the adjacent property requested that the road be closed to combine lots for commercial development.
Small business owners in the area, however, opposed the closure, saying it would impede traffic to their businesses.
On Thursday, commissioners voted to deny the request and leave the road open.
