Fight over prescription medication leads to stabbing


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An argument over prescription medication has landed one man in the hospital with stab wounds.

Police say just after 4 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to Parkwest Hospital regarding a male patient in the emergency room with a stab wound.

The 55-year-old victim says he was stabbed by his wife inside their room at the Extended Stay Motel on Langley Place. He was later taken into surgery and his status is not known at this time.

The officer investigating went to that motel and found the suspect, 49-year-old Barbara Smith. She was taken to the KPD Safety Building to be interviewed.

She told officers that the two began arguing over prescription medication and that the argument escalated to a physical altercation.

She has been charged with aggravated assault and was booked into the Knox County Sheriff's Detention Facility under at $16,500 bond.
