Knoxville Christian School breaks ground for new gym

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Christian School has broken ground on a new gymnasium.

Organizers say a new gym is much overdue. The high school teams that require a gym are currently playing on a small middle school court.

Friday's groundbreaking will be the future location of the Wade and Allan Houston court. Wade Houston is a former UT Basketball coach. His son, Allan, is the all-time leading scorer at UT and went on to play for the New York Knicks.

School board members say the Houstons' involvement was overwhelming. "The Houston family are some of the most special people you'll ever meet," said chairman of the board Richard Komistek. "We're fortunate here at KCS to have the Houston name associated with the Knoxville Christian School. We just feel very blessed with the future and the vision of where we're going."

The gym will also house three new classrooms and a new music hall.
