KCSO pursues Sweetwater man into Monroe Co.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A police pursuit began in West Knox County and ended with the arrest of a Sweetwater man in Monroe County on Sunday morning.

An officer with the Knox County Sheriff's Office stopped a 1995 black Ford Mustang around 12:10 a.m. on Kingston Pike at Cavette Hill.

As the officer approached the car, 40-year-old William Ferguson III sped off and knocked the officer to the ground.

The officer then pursued Ferguson from Kingston Pike to Campbell Station Road, and then onto Interstate 75.

Ferguson took exit 62, Oakland Road in Monroe County, but his vehicle spun out into the median.  By the time his car came to a stop, it was 12:36 a.m.

Ferguson was taken into custody and is charged with reckless driving, three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, driving on a revoked license, resisting arrest, and DUI, 8thoffense.

His bond amount is unknown at this time.
