CORBIN, Ky. (WATE) - Officials have arrested the suspect they believe is connected to the stabbing of a man in Whitley County.

After receiving a call from the stabbing victim, the Whitley County Sheriff's Department went to Hightop Road around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. However, the victim, 24-year-old Adam Hart, left the scene in a personal vehicle to get to the nearest hospital, Baptist Health in Corbin.

One deputy took statements from Hart before he was airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center.

During that time, deputies and Kentucky State Police secured the scene and searched for the accused suspect, 44-year-old Jerry L. Lawson.

On Sunday around 11:30 a.m., officials tracked Lawson to a residence on Stoney Fork Road.

He was arrested without incident. Authorities found a small pocket-style knife believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing.

Lawson was charged with second degree assault and lodged into the Whitley County Detention Center.

University of Kentucky Medical Center said that Hart was discharged as of Sunday afternoon.
