KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Vols will open play in the postseason National Invitation Tournament Wednesday at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Vols (20-12) will play Mercer (23-11). The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
The Vols were left out of the field of 68 for the NCAA tournament and were chosen as a two seed for the NIT.
This marks the second consecutive season the Vols will be playing the NIT. They lost in the second round last year to Middle Tennessee State.
Tennessee last played Mercer in 1993, winning 67-45.
The Bears won the 2013 Atlantic Sun conference regular season title.
