KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Just in time for spring break, drivers are getting a little break at the pump. AAA says the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Knoxville is $3.40. That's down three cents from last week and nearly 20 cents from last month.

"I'm going down to Georgia on a mission trip. We're going to do construction projects down there," said UT senior Michael Fromke.

That's a bit of a drive, so Fromke is happy to see prices at the pump have dropped.

"It can make a difference when you're crunching pennies," he said.

"What we're seeing is the residual effect of a drop in oil prices a few weeks ago. That's what's helping us to see these lower gas prices now," said Don Lindsey with AAA Tennessee.

He said at this late date, a slight change in pennies per gallon won't have a huge impact on vacation travelers.

"They're going to go ahead and make the trip, but what might happen is they might cut back a little on meals out, cut out an attraction, but they will go ahead and travel," he said.

If you've already decided to sit this spring break out, there's a chance gas prices will be go even lower as the temperature rises.

"The good news is typically what happens through the summer, after we get through the spring, is it tends to decline on into the summer," Lindsey said.
