KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into another while traveling the wrong way on Clinton Highway.
At about 8:25 a.m., Knoxville police responded to an accident on Clinton Highway just north of Murray Drive across from Shimla Auto Sales.
A Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Clinton Highway and struck a Toyota Sienna van head on.
There were three people in the Monte Carlo and only the driver in the Sienna.
All three people in the Monte Carlo were taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center due to their injuries.
One of the passengers was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.
The second passenger had possible life-threatening injuries, the driver of the Monte Carlo had non-life threatening injuries, and the driver of the Sienna was not injured.
Blood was drawn from both drivers because of the fatality.
The driver of the Sienna was wearing a seatbelt, but it is unknown at this time which, if any, of the occupants of the Monte Carlo were wearing a seatbelt.
It is not clear if alcohol and or drugs were involved in the accident.
The investigation in continuing.
This is the second fatal wreck in Knoxville in less than a week.
