KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Some of Knoxville's most recognizable celebrities will hit the dance floor Friday night for a good cause.

Dancing with the Knoxville Stars is patterned after the hit ABC Television show "Dancing with the Stars."

Local celebrities will perform a variety of dances with their professional dance partners from Academy Ballroom.

The event is sold out and will be held Friday, March 22, at the Knoxville Expo Center.

It is sponsored by Star 102.1 and benefits East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

6 News consumer investigator Don Dare is one of the recognizable names taking part.

Don has been hard at work practicing for the big event with his dance partner, Lisa Turner.

"Lisa patiently has been working with me as we try to learn, or I try to learn, the Carolina Shag," Don said. "He's doing wonderful."

"I was amazed how well he picked up the steps," Lisa said. "Everyone at the ballroom has just been, like, 'Wow, he's really good.'"

This is the fifth year for Dancing with the Knoxville Stars. Money is raised for East Tennessee Children's Hospital through donations, as well as proceeds of ticket sales and VIP table sales.

Members of the audience can donate money to their favorite dancer. Even if you don't attend, you can vote online up to the start of the event.

Each dollar raised counts as a vote. The winner is determined by the judges' votes tallied the night of the competition and by online voting.

The other celebrities participating are

  • Actor David Keith
  • Jewelry Television host Misty Mills
  • Comedienne Leanne Morgan
  • WBIR 10 News Anchor Russell Biven
  • Knoxville News Sentinel cartoonist Charlie Daniel
