Man dies in Greene County mobile home fire

MOHAWK (WATE) - A man died Saturday morning after a fire broke out at a mobile home in Greene County.

Chief Harold Williamson of the Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department said the blaze started around 3:50 a.m. on the 600 block of Phillipi Road.

Two people saw the burning trailer and called in the fire.  By the time crews arrived on the scene, the mobile home was fully involved and almost burnt completely to the ground.

Authorities have not identified the victim yet, but they believe he was the tenant of the home.

The body was found in the living room area, where officials said the man was sleeping during the time of the fire.

No one else was in the home during the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  However, Williamson said the fire may have been caused by an electrical malfunction.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department, the Tennessee Bomb and Arson Investigation unit, Midway Volunteer Fire Department, American Red Cross and Greeneville Light and Power assisted the Mosheim Fire Department.

Firefighters cleared the scene by 10 a.m.
