Pigeon Forge house fire claims a life, four others escape

PIGEON FOREGE (WATE)- A house fire claims the life of one person while four others escaped in Pigeon Forge Saturday morning.

Authorities said the fire broke out around 1:00 a.m. on Pleasant View in the Maple Crest subdivision.

Pigeon Forge Fire Chief Tony Watson said when crews arrived on scene most of the house was fully involved.

Watson said it was a single family home in a neighborhood not far from Wears Valley Road.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Watson said this was the third major fire crews have battled in one week.

Last Saturday they battled a 10 acre brush fire near Dollywood, and then there was the massive 300 acre fire off of Black Bear Cub Way.  That fire took days to extinguish.
