Scott County inks deal with hospital provider

HUNTSVILLE (WATE) - Scott County officials have officially signed an agreement with a company to reopen the Scott County Hospital.

Scott County Mayor Jeff Tibbals tells 6 News he signed an agreement with Pioneer Health Services (PHS) on Friday.

The company wants to reopen the hospital, which closed last May.

Before they can do so, the deal must be approved by the attorney general's office. Tibbals said PHS is still working on those filings and plans to submit them by the end of the week.

From there, the attorney general's office has 45 days to review the request.

If approved, Pioneer has stated that they plan to open the hospital with limited services within 60 days of that approval.

In order to reopen the hospital with full emergency services, the hospital will have to go through additional approval processes to receive certification as an acute care facility.

Tibbals said Pioneer has stated they will not open the hospital's emergency room until they receive certification, but added that they hope to receive it by August.

The mayor said that the process is subject to approvals from a number of agencies and entities and could face further delays as the deal moves forward.
