Driver dies at hospital following Alcoa Highway collision

ALCOA (WATE) - A driver died Monday afternoon after a morning crash on Alcoa Highway.

Alcoa police say the accident happened just before 9 a.m. near Starlite Drive.

Driver Efrain Cruz, 26, of Alcoa, was turning south onto Alcoa Highway in his 1996 Nissan Maxima when he pulled out in front of a Ford Explorer driven by a Kimberly Queener, 22, of Maryville.

The vehicles collided, critically injuring the man. The woman was also injured, but not seriously.

Both were rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where Cruz later died.

Police say both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
