Clingmans Dome Road opening delayed for snow

GATLINBURG (WATE) - A late spring storm has delayed the opening of the access road to the highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The park received more than 18 inches of snow this week at high elevations including Clingmans Dome.

The road was slated to open for the season on Friday, but that date has now been pushed back to next week because of the snow.

Park road crews are also working to open Newfound Gap Road from Sugarlands Visitor Center to Newfound Gap, which has also been closed temporarily due to snow and ice.
