Jonesborough jury convicts man in stabbing death

JONESBOROUGH (AP) - A Washington County jury has convicted a man of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of another man in 2006.

The Johnson City Press reported that after the verdict was returned Wednesday against Pancho Delgado, 44, the court sentenced him to life in prison. A 3-year arson sentence will run concurrently.

Investigators said Delgado killed Robert Curtis, 41, and set the victim's house on fire in an attempt to hide the crime.

Jurors heard two days of testimony, concluding with Delgado taking the stand to deny he killed Curtis or even knew who he was. Delgado claimed he spent the day of the killing getting high on crack cocaine and alcohol.
