HIV/AIDS conference says UT provisions prevent use of campus

HIV/AIDS awareness conference organizers say UT provisions prevent use of campus facility

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Organizers of an HIV/AIDS awareness conference said their main event is once again in limbo.

Earlier this week, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis mistakenly told organizers they couldn't use its facilities because a review was required first.

The school later clarified that the employee made an error.

Organizers with the MidSouth AIDS Fund and the Red Door Foundation said UT told them they would have to pay a fee to use a campus building for the "Saving Ourselves Symposium" because the university could no longer use state funds for the event and therefore could not sponsor it.

According to the MidSouth AIDS Facebook page, conference organizers are still looking for another location.

The symposium is scheduled for June 6-9 in Memphis.
