Y-12 National Security Complex to extend perimeter fence

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Y-12 security officials said they're taking steps to prevent more trespassers from entering the complex.

Officials said they're extending a perimeter fence around the Y-12 National Security Complex after they determined there was a greater risk of people trespassing.

Y-12 said a temporary fence will be in place by April 4.

A permanent fence is planned to follow.

Michael Walli, Greg Boertje-Obed and Sister Megan Rice are accused of breaking into the plant in July, cutting through security fences and defacing the plant's storage facility.

If convicted in their upcoming May trial, they face more than 20 years in prison.
