Second Harvest to host concert Friday night to collect donations for food bank

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A concert series benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank continues Friday in Knoxville.

Food supplies at Second Harvest have been depleting quicker than normal this year because of the late-season cold temperatures.

They say families are having to choose between paying their heating bill or buying food.

The need for donations is even greater this year and this concert series has been a great help.

"We're so appreciative of all the artists who've stepped up," said John Bell, development director for Second Harvest. "This has been a concert series and we've just seen some great groups come together and get behind this mission of hunger. They know it's something that touches every corner of East Tennessee and really every corner of our nation."

The "Blues for Food" concert is being held at 8 p.m. at the Relix Variety Theatre on Central Avenue.

If you plan to attend, you're asked to bring non-perishable food items.

With each item donated, people will have a chance to win a special prize package put together by local businesses.

Admission is $21.50 and tickets are available at the door.
