KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A father and son were both shot Sunday night while traveling in their car on Asheville Highway near the Rutledge Pike.

Knoxville police say Marcus Stanford, 41, and Marcus Stanford, Jr., 19, were fired upon around 9 p.m.

Both said they were in their vehicle when they heard gunfire. The car had several bullet holes in the driver's side.

Stanford Sr. suffered a gunshot wound in his left side. His son had multiple wounds in his legs and hips.

They then drove to a nearby Kenjo Market and asked for help.

Police have not identified any suspects, but say the shooting was not random and may have been the result of an earlier confrontation.
