U.S. education secretary to visit schools in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Two Knox County schools are set for a visit Wednesday from U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

Knox County Schools issued a public notice stating that Duncan will visit West High School and Ritta Elementary School.

The schedule includes a meet and greet beginning at 10:45 a.m. at West High for invited guests. Secretary Duncan is slated to be joined by Gov. Bill Haslam.

A classroom visit will follow, then a high school redesign roundtable. The school system says guests will discuss changes at West over the past few years.

The event will also include remarks from Secretary Duncan and Governor Haslam.

Leaders are scheduled to take questions from the media before moving on to Ritta Elementary by 3:00 p.m.

At Ritta, Duncan will also host a meet and greet then a teacher roundtable, which is scheduled to be a closed event.
