Shooting in Knoxville neighborhood sends man to hospital


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man was taken to the hospital Monday evening after being shot in the chest on a Knoxville street.

After receiving a report of the shooting, officers and medics headed to the Woodland Avenue area just after 10 p.m.

When they arrived, they were flagged down by neighbors who told them the shooting actually happened in the 2100 block of Texas Avenue near McPherson Street.

The victim, Christopher Thompson, 20, was found with a single gunshot wound in his chest.

He was taken to UT Medical Center for an injury that was not life-threatening.

Two 20-year-old males and one 20-year-old female who were with the victim in the car were interviewed by investigators. 

All three gave a different series of events leading up to the shooting.

Knoxville police are continuing to investigate the incident.
