PENSACOLA, Fla. (WATE) - The Tennessee Smokies showed some muscle in their season opener, but Pensacola managed even more power in a 7-3 win on Thursday night in Florida.
A home run by Travis Mattair gave the Blue Wahoos a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Tennessee countered in the top of the third when, with a runner on, Arismendy Alcantara crushed a pitch over the fence in dead centerfield to give the Smokies a 2-1 lead.
But Bryson Smith crashed a solo home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2 and the Wahoos took the lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Tucker Barnhart and Ryan LaMarre hit into a fielder's choice to score the go-ahead run later in the inning.
Donald Lutz added a solo home run in the seventh for Pensacola.
Alcantara drove in Tennessee's only other run with a single in the eight inning.
Pensacola's Devin Lohman drove in two runs with a single in the bottom of the eighth.
