National Weather Service confirms late March tornado in New Tazewell

NEW TAZEWELL (WATE) - The National Weather Service confirmed Friday that an EF-1 tornado touched down last month near New Tazewell.

The agency said on March 24 around 7 p.m. the tornado struck about one mile south of New Tazewell and traveled a path of 1.5 miles before ending just east of Claiborne County High School.

The tornado had peak wind speeds of 105 mph and caused some minor property damage, downed power lines and tree damage along its path.

No one was injured.
