Helicopter tour companies reach settlement with group to protect bald eagles

Posted:

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A foundation which works to protect American bald eagles says it has reached an agreement with several helicopter tour companies in the Smokies.

The president of the American Eagle Foundation says he's been getting calls about helicopters flying too closely to a nest on Highway 66.

After talking to some of the companies, the foundation says it's confident the helicopters will stay further away from the nest because they don't want to disturb the birds.

From now on, the helicopters will fly 2,000 feet away from the nest.
