KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police made a gruesome discovery after responding to a disturbance call downtown on Tuesday night.

They received a call around 8:17 p.m. about a disturbance in the 800 block of Richards Street, near 5th Avenue in downtown Knoxville.

When they arrived on the scene, they found a very intoxicated homeless man, Charles Matthew Rose, 49, in the woods behind the business at that address.

Rose attempted to take an officer to the ground and after a brief struggle was taken into custody.

Police continued to search the property and came upon a homeless camp in the woods. Four people were sleeping inside the tent.

Upon further investigation, police found that one of the individuals - a man covered in blankets in the corner of the tent - was, in fact, dead.

The body was taken for autopsy to determine a cause of death and his identity has not been released.

Rose was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication. His bond was set at $1,250.

The other people in the tent - Hope Carol Warvi, 22, originally from Strawberry Plains, Joshua Cool, 27, originally from Pennsylvania, and Brandon Roberts, 28, originally from Virginia - were arrested and charged with assault on a homeless man and theft.

Their bonds were set at $7,500.

No charges have been filed in the death of the man yet.
