KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Gunshots brought Knoxville police officers to an apartment complex Wednesday evening, but the only injuries came from a car crash.

An apartment resident apparently exchanged gunfire with someone outside in a vehicle, Knoxville Police Department Sgt. Jason Keck said.

The shootout happened around 7:30 p.m. at 320 South Hall of Fame Drive.

When police arrived there they found a Nissan Sentra had crashed nearby with Courtney Gass, 18, and Dashia Flack, 17, still inside.

Police say they were told two men ran from the crash scene. Edward Lamar Jones, 22, and a 17-year-old man, whose identity is not being released because of his age, were apprehended on Summit Hill near Town View Drive.

One of those two men was armed with a handgun. Gun charges are pending against both men.

Jones and the 17-year-old suffered minor injuries from the crash and were taken to UT Medical Center.

Flack was also taken to the hospital for what police described as a serious ankle injury.

Police say it did not appear that anyone was shot during the incident.

They are still looking into the incident, but say that all suspect and witnesses were not cooperating with investigators.
