MADISONVILLE (WATE) - Residents of Toomey Lane in Monroe County got little sleep Thursday night after a storm tore a path right through their neighborhood.

Scott Woodby says he saw what appeared to be a tornado coming straight toward his house.

"I looked out the front door and just seen the wind spinning in circles and all this debris came in and went flying through there." said Woodby. "We ran and got in the hallway and everything started smacking the house."

Woodby's home was spared any serious damage, but that wasn't the case at Kelly's Lynch's place just two doors down.

"We could just hear it and our house moving, and we knew the roof had been torn off because as we were laying there we could hear the rain just coming through," said Lynch.

Lynch says the damage was her least fear. Her main concern was the safety of her son.

"We were just trying to hold onto him and I just couldn't get out of my mind that he would be ripped from us," said Lynch. "But he's fine and we're fine, and all this other stuff can be replaced."

Another neighborhood down the street also had several homes with heavy damage.

A shed behind Cecilia Kirklands house had been picked up from a house two doors down and dropped right in her back yard.

"Everything's destroyed," said Kirkland.

Kirkland and her husband were up early surveying the damage, still shaken from the night before.

She says the it's the worst storm she's seen in her 21 years living here. The wind knocked down several trees, damaged her new car and tore off part of her roof.

"It's awful," said Kirkland. "It's terrible."

Though the damage was great, all the neighbors agree they are just grateful no one was hurt.

The Red Cross was on hand to help the families in these neighborhoods and several were provided hotels by their insurance companies.
