Stormwater app debuts at Earth Day celebration

KINGSPORT (AP) - An app that teaches about stormwater runoff in Kingsport has made its debut.

App creator Kollin Day told the Times-News that he thinks the app, which is designed to teach children about the importance of stormwater issues, is the first of its kind in Tennessee. The app features a scavenger-type game with a cartoon water drop named "Stormy." Players have to find outfalls along the Greenbelt and scan QR codes that have been placed at those sites. When they find 10, they become water protectors.

In the past, brochures have been used as outreach tools to help education the public, but this year Kingsport is using the app for outreach.

The city has partnered with local businesses to give out prizes.
