OAK RIDGE (WATE) - A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper with ties to Scott and Campbell counties died Monday.

Sgt. Brian Boshears died at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was 50.

Reports from friends say he died after fighting complications from pneumonia for several weeks.

Campbell County Sheriff Robbie K. Goins posted a tribute to Boshears on Facebook, saying, "Saying he will be missed is the understatement of a lifetime. We loved Brian and will miss him like no other."

Boshears was promoted to sergeant in THP's Knoxville District in 2011.

The veteran trooper served Scott County since 1989 and was a member of the THP Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.) and Highway Patrol's Chaplains program.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Boshears was a 2003 graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command.

Sgt. Boshears' funeral will be handled by Jones and Son Funeral Home.

His funeral will be held Thursday night at 8 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Carson Memorial Park in Oneida.
