KNOXVILLE (WATE) - It seems about this time each year as the weather begins to improve, a number of road improvement projects kick off in our area.

2013 has been no different. Another road closure coming up in Knoxville will put a snag in some drivers' commutes.

Just northwest of town, the area of Western Avenue just inside the 640 interchange is slated for work.

A section of Western Avenue is going to be closed between Keith and Richmond Avenues, beginning Monday, April 29.

It's all part of KUB's Pace 10 program to improve the wastewater systems in the area.

Crews have to close the section off so they can get it done in a timely fashion. While it's going to be closed to through traffic, locals can still access businesses and driveways, and emergency crews will be able to pass through.

Everyone else will take a lengthy detour starting on Schofield Street and then down Tennessee Avenue, Johnston Street, Heiskell Avenue and finally down Texas Avenue, before rejoining with Western Avenue.

Work is scheduled to continue through May 14, weather permitting.
