CRAB ORCHARD (WATE) - Westbound lanes of Interstate 40 were closed Thursday morning and into the afternoon hours because of a crash potentially involving hazardous materials.

The wreck happened at mile marker 333, which is several miles east of the Crab Orchard exit, around 11 a.m.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol indicated that a tractor-trailer overturned and trapped another vehicle.

While working to clear the accident scene, emergency responders found the tractor-trailer to be leaking an unknown substance and hazmat team was called in to help with clean up.

Traffic is being diverted at Exit 338 to Highway 70.

THP originally estimated the wreck would be cleared by 2 p.m. Because of the spill, the timetable for reopening the road is unknown.

Eastbound traffic was also said to be affected due to rubbernecking delays.
