KODAK (WATE) - Do you need more space in your home or a guest room for visitors? If so, one Tennessee company has way to accomplish both for you, in an easy and stylish way.
"The Murphy bed is wonderful, because you can basically turn one room into two," said Linda Gray, the owner of Tennessee Murphy Beds.
In just a matter of seconds, we watched as bookshelves turned into a bed.
Tennessee Murphy Beds can customize every aspect of your project, from wood grain to trim to pulls and knobs, even mattress size and best of all the end project is designed to be a perfect fit.
"We get the dimensions of your room," Gray explained. "Customize to fit your room. Basically you are filling that room up with furniture that actually fits that room, rather than trying to make furniture fit in a room."
That means precise measurements at your home and at the company's Kodak factory and showroom.
Each element of a Murphy bed has to be cut to size, treated, and stained before it's all assembled to look like one of the countless projects in their portfolio.
Gray told us Murphy beds seems to be gaining in popularity, but that some people still think of them as props in old TV shows and movies.
"They think you are going to fall into it," Gray said, laughing. "just like Lucy did and get stuck in there. They ask me that all the time."
Gray said her beds are light and spring-loaded and that people don't get stuck in them.
It normally takes about six to eight weeks for each custom project.
Tennessee Murphy Beds will be adding a Knoxville location at 8817 Kingston Pike, near Rothschild Catering. They plan to open June 1.
