KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed while walking near the Old City early Friday morning.

Knoxville police received a call at 12:39 a.m. about a stabbing at the Greyhound Bus Station.

Jesse J. James, 22, told officers he was waiting for a bus near the intersection of N. Central Avenue and Depot Avenue when he was approached by a man and a woman.

The couple asked James to use his cell phone and at some point in the conversation the man stabbed the victim in his stomach and took his cell phone.

James walked to the Greyhound station to report the incident to a Knox County Sheriff's deputy who was working there.

The victim was taken to Ft. Sanders Hospital with a non-life threatening injury. He was later transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

James could only provide a few details and a limited description of the suspects.

Both suspects were last seen walking westbound, possibly on Depot Avenue.
