Shutdown of city services prompts TBI investigation in Niota

Posted:

NIOTA (WATE) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now looking into harassment complaints that led to a shutdown of city services in a McMinn County town.

Earlier this month, the City of Niota had to park its vehicles and furlough police officers when its insurance coverage was not renewed.

The insurance provider pointed to harassment claims by city employees.

A TBI spokesperson told 6 News Monday that the bureau is looking into allegations of misconduct.

Niota was given a temporary insurance extension last week.
