KNOXVILLE (WATE) - How fit are you?

Whether you are an elite athlete, a weekend warrior or just getting off the couch, it's important to identify your limits when working out.

Recently, I had the chance to identify my boundaries with a visit to the Provision Physical Therapy Performance Lab in Dowell Springs in West Knoxville.

Dr. Kevin Sprouse (DO) and Dean Douglas (DPT) put me to the test on the treadmill while checking my oxygen intake, lactic acid levels and heart rate. They then used this information to determine my threshold.

In other words, they determined how I can get the most out of my workout by not going overboard and damaging my body.

"If you're like the rest of us who try to fit a workout inside a busy schedule and you want to make the most of your 30 minutes or 40 minutes you have to exercise, then it's good to know how to tailor that exercise and get the most out of it." says Dr. Sprouse.

"We help you have an efficient workout, use the time you have to reach the goals you have for yourself, whether winning a race, completing a race, or just getting off the couch in a way that is comfortable, safe, and a way you're going to stick with it," he continued.

As for my results? After calculating all my readings as well as factoring in age and weight, let's just say I was in the middle of the pack.

"We will tell you where you rank based on population norms" adds Dr. Sprouse.

It should be noted, depending on age, you may need to undergo a stress test before signing up.
