KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Point guard Trae Golden will not return to the Tennessee men's basketball team for his senior season, the university's athletics department announced Tuesday.
Golden will transfer to a different school at the end of the spring semester, but that school has not been named.
No reason was given in the university's announcement for his departure.
"We want nothing but the best for Trae," Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin is quoted as saying in a statement.
"I really appreciate the staff and all the great support from Vol fans. I'm definitely going to miss my teammates," Golden says in the media release. "I want them to have nothing but success in the future."
Golden played in 96 games in three seasons with the Vols, including 58 starts.
Golden averaged of 13.6 points per game as a sophomore, but that number dipped slightly to 12.1 points last season.
