Cleveland case brings attention to local missing persons cases

Posted:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - After three women were found in Cleveland after being missing for years, attention is now turning to missing cases closer to home.

In Tennessee, at any given time there are typically between 400-500 children who have been reported missing, according to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Kristin Helm.

The largest majority of those cases, Helm said, are custodial interference or runaways. A very small percent are abductions like the ones in Cleveland.

TBI typically issues between 8-12 AMBER Alerts each year and about the same number of endangered child alerts.

A list of some Tennessee missing children cases investigated by TBI that are unsolved is available on the their website.
