Haslam consultant Ingram faces lobbying questions

NASHVILLE (AP) - Tom Ingram, a top Republican political consultant and adviser to Pilot Flying J, is facing possible civil penalties for failing to register as a lobbyist.

WTVF-TV first reported that Ingram represents a company that wants to mine coal on public land near Crossville.

Ingram, who has run recent campaigns of Gov. Bill Haslam and U.S. Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker, told reporters that the failure to register was a colleague's mistake at the lobbying and public relations firm he founded and runs.

Ingram has been a chief architect of the public response by Pilot Flying J to an April 15 raid by federal agents who allege the privately held company defrauded trucking customers.

The company is owned by the governor's family and is run by Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam.
