NEWPORT (WATE) - The sister of murder victim Megan Maxwell was involved in a fight with the man convicted earlier in the week of assisting in the crime.

Maxwell went missing in 2009 after her car was discovered on fire. A year later, a man walking his dog found her remains in rural Cocke County.

In 2011, Jeffrey Stock was charged with the rape and murder of Maxwell. His father, Terry Stock, was charged with helping his son cover up the crime.

On Tuesday, Newport police were called to a local gas station for a report of a fight.

Terry Stock told police he was pumping gas when Megan's sister, Stephanie Maxwell, pulled into the Mapco station to confront him about his involvement in the murder.

The argument became heated and Maxwell told police she hit Stock with a closed fist.

Stock hit her back and then got in his car to leave.

Maxwell told police she then stood in the path of his car to block him from leaving and Stock bumped her lightly with his car before driving away.

Stock went to a nearby business where he reported the incident to police.

He later opted not to press charges against Maxwell.
