Small earthquake hits Blount County

MARYVILLE (WATE) - A small earthquake shook East Tennessee Friday, centered under Blount County.

The quake registered a magnitude 2.5 on the Richter scale, hitting just a few minutes before 1 a.m.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was about four miles east of Maryville.

People there reported feeling the quake, as well as people in Alcoa, Friendsville and Knoxville.

It's been less than a month since another small earthquake, also magnitude 2.5, was reported in Rhea County near Dayton.

That one happened just after midnight on April 18.

There's been no reports of damage from either incident.
