Gun confiscated from student at Bearden Middle School

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Thanks to a tip from fellow students, school officials confiscated an unloaded gun from a student at a Knox County middle school Monday.

Knox County Schools spokeswoman Melissa Ogden said the firearm was not loaded and the student did not have ammunition for the gun at school.

According to Knoxville police, a seventh grader was taken into custody and charged with possession of a gun on school property. He was taken to the juvenile detention facility.

Ogden said there was no interruption to school activities.

The Knoxville Police Department is handling the investigation.

Parents of middle schoolers were notified of the incident by the parental notification system.
