KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Several changes are in store at the Knoxville Zoo, including a new director.

Lisa New is the fifth director in the zoo's history, as well as the first female to have the position.

New says it's an exciting time for her to lead the zoo, especially with upcoming changes.

The city proposed money in their budget to help fund some of these new additions, which will be happening over the next several years.

"That would include Tiger Forest, a brand new habitat for the Malayan tigers, expansion and additions to Kids Cove as well as a new Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Center," said New.

New says these changes will help to keep the zoo modern as well as move them forward in the industry.

They also hope it will attract more tourists to Knoxville.
