Security systems reviewed at 28 Knox County schools

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Following an investigation into security at Knox County Schools, the results from an audit of security systems were released Wednesday.

Twenty-eight schools have been reviewed so far. Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre said more schools will be reviewed later.

According to the findings, on average, about three video cameras per school were identified as needing maintenance. A handful of individual motion detections were also found to not function properly. The report found no issues with keyless entry systems. According to officials, more than 750 cameras were inspected.

An earlier audit focused on school security systems installed at Hardin Valley Academy and Powell Middle School.

Later, questions were raised about ties between the vendor that sold those systems Professional Security Consultants and Design (PSCD) and former school security chief Steve Griffin. Griffin retired earlier this month after being placed on administrative leave.

Former KPD Deputy Chief Gus Paidousis has been tapped to replace Griffin.
