FARRAGUT (WATE) - The Farragut Business Alliance (FBA) has decided to oppose a three percent hotel-motel tax.
The tax passed recently in a first vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The FBA hosted a community forum Thursday morning to discuss the proposal.
Supporters said the tax would go toward funding tourism, parks, and capital improvement projects that could attract more people to the town.
Hotel industry and business representatives expressed the opposite. They say the extra tax would drive up rates, prompting travelers to look elsewhere.
A final vote is scheduled for next week.
