Retired racecar driver Dick Trickle commits suicide

BOGER CITY, N.C. (WATE) - Richard "Dick" Trickle, the former racecar driver, died Thursday.

According to WSOC-TV in North Carolina, Trickle died at noon of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The driver was known for competing in everything from short track racing to NASCAR.

He's considered America's winningest driver, racking up more than 2,000 career wins.

Trickle was 71 years old.
