Knoxville man arrested in connection with Sevier County cabin burglaries

KNOXVILLE (WATE)  - A Knoxville man is now facing charges in a string of cabin burglaries in Sevier County.

The Sevier County Sheriff's Department said Stephen Russell, 42, was arrested Friday morning and charged with five counts of aggravated burglary.

Authorities said Russell is one of the suspects who broke into rental cabins in the Cedar Falls and Hidden Mountain resorts in March and April.

During the most recent burglary last month, police spotted Russell's SUV and gave chase.

Officers said the suspects threw stolen items, including TVs, out of the vehicle.

The chase was called off due to safety concerns, but the abandoned vehicle was later found with Russell's wallet still inside.

Russell is also facing charges in that police chase.

Officials say more arrests are pending.
