NEWPORT (WATE) - Deputies found a suspect wanted for sexual assault Monday night, after he evaded arrest early Monday morning in Cocke County.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Cocke County deputies responded to Tennova Medical Center for a report of a sexual assault.

There, a 15-year-old girl told them that her mother's live-in boyfriend, Richard Sullivan, 40, had assaulted her sexually.

The girl's mother was arrested in the emergency room for child abuse and neglect.

Investigators responded to the home on Rankin Hill Road around 4 a.m. with a warrant for Sullivan's arrest for aggravated sexual battery.

When deputies opened the front door with a set of keys, Sullivan shoved the door closed and locked it.

While waiting for back-up to arrive on the scene, deputies tried to contact Sullivan, but received no response.

Morristown police were called in for assistance with a robot to determine if Sullivan was inside. A search of the house revealed that he had fled the scene before a perimeter was established around the house.

Deputies took Sullivan into custody before 9 p.m. Monday. He is being held at the Cocke County Detention Center.
