CAMP CREEK (WATE) – Two years have passed since a deadly tornado hit the Camp Creek community in Greene County. Despite all the time that's passed, the landscape, broken trees, and homes still under renovation show it's an area where a tornado hit.

Seven people were killed in the April 2011 EF-2 tornado, with more than 100 homes damaged or destroyed. David White's home was in the heart of the devastation and was significantly damaged. He says, two years later, the same day as Monday's tornado in Oklahoma, he was still doing work on his home.

"I had an uncle who told me Rome wasn't built in a  day, and the rebuilding process is ongoing. Made some improvements and modifications, but it continues to be an ongoing process, " White said.

For some, recovering has been about the physical process of rebuilding. For others, it's been an emotional journey. Jenny Walters has not been able to take her eyes off the storm coverage out of Oklahoma. The out-of-state images brought her some bad memories.

"We keep an eye on the weather more now. I get more scared when thunderstorms pop up," Walters said. "You never think it's going to happen to you, but it can."

However, she says there are always lessons to be learned.

"Take it one day a time, like life, take it one day at a time," Walters said.

Both Walters and White say more than anything else, their experiences have given them a renewed appreciation for being alive.
