Knoxville forms program to make community breastfeeding friendly

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville is launching a new effort to make breastfeeding mothers feel welcome.

The city has formed the "Breastfeeding Welcomed Here Pledge Program."

The goal is to make the community friendlier to breastfeeding families and to encourage women to breastfeed their babies.

Some businesses have already signed the pledge.

They have committed to creating a comfortable environment in their business for breastfeeding mothers.

The businesses must also educate workers on Tennessee law on the issue.

They will also put up a sign in the window to alert mothers to areas where they can breastfeed comfortably.
