Second Harvest prepares to send food, water to Oklahoma

MARYVILLE (WATE) - Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is preparing to send food to Oklahoma.

Twelve pallets of FEMA disaster relief snack food kits and 12 pallets of water bottles will be sent to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

The snack kits were leftover from the Hurricane Sandy Relief.

A Second Harvest Spokesperson said the kits were going to be used for the "Food for Kids" backpack programs, but they know the need is urgent in Oklahoma City.

"The beauty of us, the network, is that we literally can send a tractor trailer tomorrow, and this could be here tomorrow night, and FEMA will come through and they will have food there, but there is some red tape that FEMA food has to go through where as the network can get this to the victim's tomorrow night," said Elaine Streno, with Second Harvest Food Bank.

Second Harvest is accepting food and bottled water donations for the people of Oklahoma.
